New Computer Setup

Whether or not you purchased your new computer from us, let us help you get your desktop or laptop set up on-site at your home or small business.  We work with Apple, PC, and Linux.

Use your new computer to its full potential:

  • We will ensure that your system starts up quickly by disabling or uninstalling unwanted programs or “bloatware” that ships with many new Big Box computers.
  • We will install effective and lightweight personal security software that will help protect you from viruses and other malware.
  • We will get your new computer set up on the network and functioning with your printers and other devices.
  • We will help you start fresh and migrate from Internet Explorer to Firefox or another alternate web browser, so you can browse the internet safer and faster–all while keeping your favorites, bookmarks, and homepage intact!  Internet Explorer will still be on your system and available in case you need it for specific websites.

Keep what you care about, and keep it safe:

  • We will help you migrate your photos, documents, e-mail, music, and other important data from your old machine to your new, and help you get and keep it organized.
  • We will make sure you have a backup system in place, whether it is in the form of a second internal hard drive, an external USB hard drive, or a continuous, automated off-site backup.

Get a tutorial:

  • Our friendly, personable, and patient technicians will be happy to spend some one-on-one time familiarizing you with your new system.
  • We will show you how to keep things organized, which programs and shortcuts to use for what tasks, as well as teach you how to use new software and gadgets.
  • Our goal is to help your computing experience be comfortable, productive, and fun!

Switch from a PC to a Mac, or Vice Versa:

  • Making the “switch” can be a daunting proposition.  Our techs are familiar with both Windows and Apple operating systems and can help you migrate your data and customize the look of your new computer, regardless of which direction you are moving.
  • If you are going to an Apple system, we’ll set up and show you how to use Time Machine–Apple’s excellent built-in backup program–along with the other software you need.
  • If there are PC programs you absolutely need to run on your Apple–and there are no equivalents or Mac versions of that software out there–we can help you do that by setting up and showing you how to use Boot Camp or Parallels for Mac.
